Hamza attends a Janaza

By Shabana Hussain

The story is a gentle introduction to attending an Islamic funeral for young readers. Hamza’s father, uncle, and grandfather all receive news of an untimely death and a request to attend the janaza. Hamza’s parents explain what a janaza is and the importance of attending. They explain the rituals, such as the ghusl (washing the body) and the kafan (shrouding the body), and a standing prayer called the salat al-janaza.
