Refuge

The book follows Noora, a newly married woman in war-torn Syria, whose life is suddenly and cruelly upended by the escalating conflict. As conditions worsen overnight, she is forced to make the agonizing decision to leave her husband to ensure her own safety. The narrative follows Noora’s struggle to find a safe haven while confronting the horrors faced daily by ordinary Syrian people. In her journey, Noora must rely on her faith and inner strength. The novel is described as a “page-turner” that illuminates the human side of a conflict often overlooked in news reports. Anees, a Sri Lankan author, used her multidisciplinary background and volunteer work to “delicately illuminate the untold perspectives” of those living through such devastating events.
